Once long ago
In a faraway paradise
I was a prisoner
I was tangled and trapped
To an intricate wall
Like a maze
The path antecedent to one's distinction
Is winding and tortuous
As the silky hair of a child
Etching towards the center
The center
A creature lies
Disguised as a gruesome thing
It might not be what it seems
Repulsive and frightening at first glimpse
A little creature
Hiding from the brutal reality of the world
Exaggerating, am I?
No, I don't think so
As each day comes
And fades away
I meander down
The avenues of yesterday
Never knowing
What tomorrow decides to hurl at me
As each day, hour, minute second succumbs
I grow to know and learn
The habits of this creature
Eccentric
Pusillanimous
Impulsive
I behold the phantom of an image
Beckoning me to follow
Down the sparking, fine strands
So frail, yet enduring
I never knew what I held
Till the day it blew away
It was my spider web
Complicated
Simple
The thin lines
Swirling all about
In dizzy circles
Or sometimes
Just connected by random lines
One never sees the complexity of those whiskery lines
They are just lines
Meeting at all intersections
But I do
They form a picture
A picture of hidden perfection
Surrounding a little girl
She was my spider web
She wrapped around me
She had captured my heart
But in the end
She broke away
Once, long ago
In a faraway paradise
I stumbed into the arms of this child
I fell into her heart and her soul
I thought I was trapped in her web
But maybe.
I was really her
That I was protecting
I embraced her
I soaked up her energy
I drank, ate and breathe her in
I grasped her fire
Only in the end
She broke
And flew away

THE WORLD BEYOND
I see you, young child, I see you well
I see you standing there in your protected shell
Wondering why you're seeing a man
So full of wilderness, that needs to be tame
You're curious to know, you don't know why
You want to ask, but you're to shy
I'm here to show you the world beyond
The world in which I hold a bond
I, a man of age has seen so much
I need no more a gentle touch
The world and God has shown me truth
It'is stripped me of my innocence and youth
I cry no more, for I have dried
I have been arrested, judged and tried
Convicted of a crime that holds no sense
The crime of rebel, freedom and difference
I have no loved ones save alone my art
I've chosen my path in life, straight from my heart
I ask you child, what do you see?
What do you see, when you're looking at me?
A filthy creature that needs a hand
A lonely soul that hungers a friend
In that's what you see, child, is that what I am?
Then I must tell you child again and again
You are mistaken, you are wrong
You're missing the sunshine, sunset and dawn
I'm spirited being, with much to give
I know so much, you must believe
The Lord has given me valuable talent
A gift of endurance, He has sent
So open your shell, now, open it up, child
I was always a prison I see so vile
You were imprisoned by it all your life
It prevented the world to come in your sight
I kept you from becoming who you truly are
With help, my dear, you can travel far
Come, my child, come with me,
Need not fear, there's much to see
I've been so far, I've seen so much
I've so many tightly in my clutch
There, behold, I've built a magical palace
I see now soon, I will leave the race
The race of talent, beauty and love
I'm leaving soon, to the Heaven above
Life can do me no more harm
I've done so much with my own two arms
There, my child, there you see
The world has much for you to be,
Again, I bid you, again I bid
Come my child, come and live
Your time will come and you will know
You can rise higher than you friend and foe
