                                                      Special Remarks:

1-  The Phong has been  widely known in English speaking  countries.
He has been invited to The International Writing Program by The Iowa School of Letters, but  has been unable to attend of obscure reason.   Repeated  efforts of Professor Paul Engle, himself an eminent  and writer, the Chairman of the Program,
 has been  all in vain.

It is a shame a writer who has a lot to contribute  to international forum has been so discouraged.   Anyway   his wrting is becoming more and more popular  among serious readers of Vietnamese literarure.   Sure he is not the most prolific writer, but he has written nothing which could be rated  as a little significance.

2.- " ...The Phong was born  in 1932  at Yên Bái Province ( North Vietnam ) , and spent  his childhood in the northermost part of Vietnam.   The poems  reprinted here are taken  from a mimeographed collection of the Vietnamese poet,The Phong : entiled  Vietnam the sky under fire and flames,
published  in Saigon, may 1967.   The collection  was obtained fro TENGGARA
by the young writer, Bur Rasuanto, who was on a visit there recently.

Đàm Xuân Cận , in presenting his English translation of The Phong's poems in Vietnam, The Sky Under  Fire and Flames wrote:

" The Phong's poems are particularly difficult to translate and  I have no illusion whatever about my command of English.    I  trust that one day a poet of talent will revisethis version and do more  justice to the origin."

Readers are bound to feel that Dam Xuan Can does not himself  justices."
